Life is full of change. Groups are no different. From time to time changes are made. Have you ever been involved with a ministry that you thought might be coming to an end? That was Triumphant Sound a few months ago. We sought the Lord’s direction for a replacement for over eight months. However, I am thrilled to say, as is often the case, the Lord came through just in time. His timing and our timing are often different, but His is perfect.
Historically Triumphant Sound has been a male group. However, we now come to you with a new look and a fresh sound as a mixed group. We would like to introduce to you our newest member, Kathy Sellwood. She became a part of our group as a full time member July 2009. Some would say we now have a beautiful rose between two thorns. She by no means is a new name to gospel music. Kathy has been singing the gospel since she was a teenager. She is well schooled in voice and stage performance. Kathy and her husband Reed were the organizers of the well known group “ The Sellwoods “. The group ministered for over thirty years. For the last few years Kathy has done some solo work and had a mixed trio that sang periodically. Kathy has a great solo and blending voice. She also has a heart for ministry that meshes beautifully with ours. It’s our desire to see souls come to Christ and for believers to be challenged, uplifted and encouraged to a deeper walk with their Lord. It’s great to have Kathy on board. She is a great addition. We are excited to see where and how the Lord will use this ministry. It’s all about HIM! We are working on a CD project which we hope to get by mid 2010.
Previously to the recent change we were blessed to sing with Phil Pugh. Phil sang the tenor part and worked with us for eight years. Phil chose to leave us Dec. 2008 to seek the Lord’s direction for his singing ministry.
John Ross and Bryan Nelson sang as a duet for three years prior to Phil’s arrival. John and I were used of the Lord as a duet but had always enjoyed harmony. We waited on the Lord for three years before Phil joined us making us a trio.
Triumphant Sound had a sabbatical for approximately five years. During that time John Ross actually sang with Kathy and The Sellwoods. Bryan Nelson did some solo ministry. Bryan had mentioned that he felt he would sing with John once again sometime in the future. When the Sellwood’s began to wind down John approached Bryan and they began to sing as a duet.
From there we go back to the original roots of Triumphant Sound. It began during a family Christmas get together. John Ross, Dave Ross and Ian Elliott their cousin were singing around the piano. Ian’s dad was the pastor at Parklawn Baptist Church. He asked them to sing at church. There was someone at that service that asked them to sing at their church. A new group had been born. Eventually Bill Hawkins came to sing bass and Wes Chapman came to play base guitar. From there the history began.
It has now been over thirty-three years. Who would have ever thought this ministry would still be going and being used of the Lord. God is good! May the Lord continue to bless each of us in our individual ministries as we strive to serve HIM. |
