Once upon a time, there were two brothers, David and John Ross, and a cousin, Ian Elliott. As was tradition, when there was a family gathering, you would always find them singing around the piano. However, this day was going to be unique as it was going to be the conception of a group known as Triumphant Sound. As they were singing around the piano, someone said, "That sounds good. Why don't you sing at church together sometime?"

At the time of Triumphant Sound's conception, Ian's dad was the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, so there was no difficulty setting up a date for them to get together to sing at church. This began what would result in the many times that Triumphant Sound sang in churches and other venues. They had a friend, Bill Hawkins, who sang bass. Ian had another friend at his church, named Wes Chapman, who played the bass guitar. Ian and David both played the piano by ear, so the key and style the song was in determined who went to the piano. It was decided that they would all join together to create Triumphant Sound. Gradually the word got out and doors for ministry began to open.

A year later there was to be a change. Ian was working for Mitchell Family Books as an outside sales representative. He had to go on extensive business trips that would take him out of town for four to six weeks at a time. When this took place, they couldn't take on any bookings. There was an individual named Bryan Nelson that played the piano and did some singing at the church that John and David attended, Banfield Memorial Evangelical Missionary Church. They thought if Bryan was interested in filling in when Ian went away, they could continue to take bookings. John approached Bryan and asked him if he would have any interest in singing in their group as a member. Bryan became the next member of Triumphant Sound.

After approximately three years, Ian felt he had been called to full time ministry. He started as a full time youth worker at Forward Baptist Church in Cambridge. Ian has since moved on to full time ministry as a pastor and professor of theological studies. Praise the Lord for the way He has led in Ian's life. David and Bryan once again would have to play the piano and sing. They thought it would be great to have a regular piano player so they could concentrate on vocals. A young lady named Mary Perry attended Banfield and played the piano. They approached her and following a couple of practices she decided to become a part of the ministry.

Wes's children were getting older and the group was becoming quite busy. He felt it was time to resign and spend more time with his family and join the band at his church. This left the group with no bass guitar player. Once again, a search began. They were blessed to come across Ian Phillips. He was a terrific find. They continued on like this for a number of years.

Things had been going well with two recordings and a busy schedule. You know what it's like when things are running too smoothly. You guessed it. David dropped a bomb and told us he was going to start up a business in Florida. That was a real let down. The group accepted it and began to look for another voice. They waited on the Lord for His direction for approximately six months. People would audition but nothing came of it. After much deliberation, the group decided it was time for this ministry to come to an end. This was difficult as they had been together for approximately fifteen years with many terrific memories.

John went on to minister with another group called The Sellwoods and Bryan did some solo ministry. Bryan had always enjoyed singing with John and mentioned he felt in his spirit that they would sing together again sometime down the line. They carried on with separate paths for approximately five years. At that time, The Sellwoods were starting to wind down and John approached Bryan to see if he would be interested in doing anything. That which Bryan had been waiting for was coming to fruition and so another phase of Triumphant Sound began.

The next phase of Triumphant Sound was to begin as a duet. The Lord opened numerous doors and was blessing the ministry. Both John and Bryan thought it would be beneficial to have a third voice. Following approximately two to three years of prayer, the Lord answered. A phone call was made to a young man named Phil Pugh. It just so happened that he was looking to do something with the voice the Lord had given him. Following their first practice, John and Bryan were very pleased and trusted Phil would become involved. Phil decided to join the ministry, which made Triumphant Sound a male trio. This brings us to the present. They are looking forward to what the Lord has in store for the future.
